On Serendipity

Serendipity is neither luck nor chaos. It is wisdom, circumstance, and their fortunate union.

Etymology: in 1754 Horace Walpole generated this word via “The Three Princes of Serendip”, a fairy tale in which the protagonists “were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity*, of things they were not in quest of.”
